Advent Bible Study:  The Revelation: A Final Word for a Stressed-Out Age - Starting November 24, 11:00 am
The Revelation of John was written at a time when Christians were severely persecuted for their faith.  While many different interpretations are given to the highly symbolic details of the book, the overall message rings clear:  In a world dominated by many forms of violence, God will have the final word, and the people of God will receive eternal blessing on the other side of their suffering.  Today, we can continue to hear God's words of hope and encouragement through this final book in our collection of scriptures.  Our four week Advent study begins a little early this year on Monday, November 24, at 11:00 am.  Pastor Rights will lead this study in the fellowship hall.

Hanging of the Greens - November 30
Our observance of the Season of Advent begins Sunday, November 30.  The Advent wreath will be lit, the star and Chrismon tree will be illuminated, and the greenery will be placed as we meditate once again on the coming of Christ.  There will be no Children's Church on this day.

News

Moravian Identity Course Offered:  Someone with great insight once said that, "Many paths lead to the summit of Mt. Calvary.  Choose one and go deep."  There are many ways to come to the saving knowledge of God in Christ.  One way is to "bushwhack" one's way to the cross.  Another is to switch between the many paths leading to the cross.  And another way is to focus on one path and delve deeply into that way, a path that has been well-worn by saints for many generations.  The Moravian Church offers a path that has lead to the cross for five and a half centuries.  In the coming weeks, we'd like to begin a course on our Moravian identity.  This class would be for anyone desiring to know more about what it means to live the Christian faith in the Moravian tradition.  The four-week course would include sessions on history, beliefs, customs and mission.  If interested, please sign up in the foyer.  After at least 7 people have signed up, we'll see if we can find a meeting time that will suit us all.

CROP Walk Success Again:  We stretched our arms around the world on October 19 as 19 of us walked in the annual 2 mile CROP Walk.  $1894 was raised for Church World Service and the local ministries of Sunnyside and Crisis Control Ministries.  Thanks to our generous contributors and our walkers.

:  It is time to gear up again for Girl Scouts.  This year we will host troops for Brownies , Juniors, and Cadettes.  The Brownie and Junior troops will meet on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of every month.  They will do some combined activities as well as separate troop activities.  The Cadette troop will meet the 1st, 3rd and 5th Mondays of each month.  All meetings will be held from 6:30 - 8:00 pm, beginning September 8.

Handbells:  It is time to dust off those gloves and get ready for a new year of ringing.  Our youth handbell choir, the Lamb of God Ringers, will begin work on music for an overnight festival to be held in November.  They will also provide music for a worship service in the fall as well as Prelude music at the Christmas Eve Lovefeast services.  This group meets at 7:00 pm on Wednesday nights beginning Sept 10.  Our adult choir, the Alpha and Omega Ringers, will begin working on music for a fall service as well as music during Advent.  This group meets on Wednesday nights from 7:30 to 8:30 beginning Sept 10.  Our Sonshine Ringers from the Stockton Street home will also begin working on music to be presented during the fall and Advent seasons.  This group meets on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm beginning Sept 14.  All groups are open to anyone interested in joining.  No experience is necessary.

Unity Cookbook:  The Around the World Moravian Unity Cookbook is almost here.  It has had its final editing and is on its way to the printer.

Daily Texts for 2008:  They are now available in the church office.  Soft cover - $9, Hard cover - $12.50, Large print - $11, Journal - $13.50

CDs of Sunday Services Available:  Each Sunday, our Worship Service is recorded on cd.  These cd's are available each week for delivery to members unable to attend worship.

Wish Lists for Local Agencies:  Our monthly offerings of food are being simplified to receive the same foods each month for Sunnyside Ministry and the Cordero de Dios Food Pantry.  Keep peanut butter and jelly on your grocery list for Sunnyside and Maseca tortilla corn flour and vegetable oil on your list for Cordero de Dios.  Bins for these offerings are in the Fellowship Hall.

Volunteers Needed for Children's Church:  Materials will be available.  Please consider helping out.

Notecards:  The Women's Fellowship is selling notecards that have a drawing of our church on the front.  The price is $5.00 per pack.  Notecards are located in the church office.  These would make an excellent gift.
